Heisthemostpunctiliousblockheadunderheaven。Hedoeseverythingstepbystep,withthetriflingminutenessofanoldwoman;andheisamanwhomitisimpossibletoplease,becauseheisneverpleasedwithhimself。Iliketodobusinessregularlyandcheerfully,and,whenitisfinished,toleaveit。Butheconstantlyreturnsmypaperstome,saying,"Theywilldo,"butrecommendingmetolookoverthemagain,as"onemayalwaysimprovebyusingabetterwordoramoreappropriateparticle。"Ithenloseallpatience,andwishmyselfatthedevil’s。Notaconjunction,notanadverb,mustbeomitted:hehasadeadlyantipathytoallthosetranspositionsofwhichIamsofond;and,ifthemusicofourperiodsisnottunedtotheestablished,officialkey,hecannotcomprehendourmeaning。Itisdeplorabletobeconnectedwithsuchafellow。
