  Itwastheseweightyconsiderationswhichmadehimthinktoothatthemarriageshouldtakeplaceasquicklyaspossible。Washeanxioushimself,Iwonder,tohaveitover。?——aspeople,whendeathhasoccurred,liketopressforwardthefuneral,orwhenapartingisresolvedupon,hastenit。ItiscertainthatMr。Dobbin,havingtakenthematterinhand,wasmostextraordinarilyeagerintheconductofit。HeurgedonGeorgethenecessityofimmediateaction:heshowedthechancesofreconciliationwithhisfather,whichafavourablementionofhisnameintheGazettemustbringabout。Ifneedwerehewouldgohimselfandbraveboththefathersinthebusiness。Atallevents,hebesoughtGeorgetogothroughwithitbeforetheorderscame,whicheverybodyexpected,forthedepartureoftheregimentfromEnglandonforeignservice。

  feelingofshameandremorsetookpossessionofWilliamDobbinasthebrokenoldmansoreceivedandaddressedhim,asifhehimselfhadbeensomehowguiltyofthemisfortuneswhichhadbroughtSedleysolow。
