　　Therewasalreadyacounterintheshopandafewfittings，sothatnothingnowremainedbuttogetsomestockandsetthemoutforsale。Ernestsaidhecouldnotbeginbetterthanbysellinghisclericalwardrobeandhisbooks，forthoughtheshopwasintendedespeciallyforthesaleofsecond-handclothes，yetEllensaidtherewasnoreasonwhytheyshouldnotsellafewbookstoo；soabeginningwastobemadebysellingthebookshehadhadatschoolandcollegeataboutoneshillingavolume，takingthemallround，andIhaveheardhimsaythathelearnedmorethatprovedofpracticalusetohimthroughstockinghisbooksonabenchinfrontofhisshopandsellingthem，thanhehaddonefromalltheyearsofstudywhichhehadbestowedupontheircontents。
