  Muishkinwasgladenoughtobeleftalone。Hewentoutofthegarden,crossedtheroad,andenteredthepark。Hewishedtoreflect,andtomakeuphismindastoacertain"step。"Thisstepwasoneofthosethings,however,whicharenotthoughtout,asarule,butdecidedfororagainsthastily,andwithoutmuchreflection。Thefactis,hefeltalongingtoleaveallthisandgoaway——goanywhere,ifonlyitwerefarenough,andatonce,withoutbiddingfarewelltoanyone。Hefeltapresentimentthatifheremainedbutafewdaysmoreinthisplace,andamongthesepeople,hewouldbefixedthereirrevocablyandpermanently。
  However,inaveryfewminuteshedecidedthattorunawaywasimpossible;thatitwouldbecowardly;thatgreatproblemslaybeforehim,andthathehadnorighttoleavethemunsolved,oratleasttorefusetogiveallhisenergyandstrengthtotheattempttosolvethem。Havingcometothisdetermination,heturnedandwenthome,hiswalkhavinglastedlessthanaquarterofanhour。Atthatmomenthewasthoroughlyunhappy。
