  whenonewasinthecoach-box,ifthecoachswungbuttheleasttooneside,sheusedtoshrieksoloud,thatallthestreetconcludedshewasoverturned;butthoughtheotherwaseternallydrunk,andhadoverturnedthewholefamily,shewasveryangrywithherfatherforturninghimaway。Thensheusedtocarrytalesandstoriesfromonetoanother,tillshehadsetthewholeneighbourhoodtogetherbytheears;andthiswastheonlydiversionshetookpleasurein。Sheneverwentabroad,butshebroughthomesuchabundleofmonstrouslies,aswouldhaveamazedanymortal,butsuchasknowher:ofawhalethathadswallowedafleetofships;ofthelionsbeingletoutoftheTower,todestroytheProtestantreligion;ofthePope’sbeingseeninabrandy-shopatWapping;andaprodigiousstrongmanthatwasgoingtoshovedownthecupolaofSt。Paul’s;ofthreemillionsoffivepoundpiecesthatSquireSouthhadfoundunderanoldwall;ofblazingstars,flyingdragons,andabundanceofsuchstuff。Alltheservantsinthefamilymadehighcourttoher,forshedomineeredthere,andturnedoutandinwhomshepleased;onlytherewasanoldgrudgebetweenherandSirRoger,whomshemortallyhatedandusedtohirefellowstosquirtkennelwateruponhimashepassedalongthestreets;sothathewasforcedconstantlytowearasurtoutofoiledcloth,bywhichmeanshecamehomeprettyclean,exceptwherethesurtoutwasalittlescanty。

  SECONDGUARDIAN。——ThereisnothingsoplainasthatthisLewishasadesigntoruinallhisneighbouringtradesmen,andatthistimehehassuchaprodigiousincomebyhistradeofallkinds,that,ifthereisnotsomestopputtohisexorbitantriches,hewillmonopoliseeverything;nobodywillbeabletosellayardofdraperyormercerywarebuthimself。Ithenholditadvisablethatyoucontinuethelawsuitandbursthimatonce。Myconcernforthethreepoormotherlesschildrenobligesmetogiveyouthisadvice;
