  Simpsonbeatoutthetrainer’sbrainswithhisheavystickwithoutreceivinganyinjuryfromthesmallknifewhichStrakerusedinself-defence,andthenthethiefeitherledthehorseontosomesecrethiding-place,orelseitmayhaveboltedduringthestruggle,andbenowwanderingoutonthemoors。Thatisthecaseasitappearstothepolice,andimprobableasitis,allotherexplanationsaremoreimprobablestill。However,IshallveryquicklytestthematterwhenIamonceuponthespot,anduntilthenIcannotreallyseehowwecangetmuchfurtherthanourpresentposition。”
