  Grasshoppersskippedbrisklyintheseregrass,andcricketschirpedlikefairypipersatafeast。Squirrelswerebusywiththeirsmallharvesting。Birdstwitteredtheiradieuxfromthealdersinthelane,andeverytreestoodreadytosenddownitsshowerofredoryellowapplesatthefirstshake。Everybodywasthere。

  AsAmyspoke,agreatteardroppedonthegoldenhairofthesleepingchildinherarms,forheronewell-beloveddaughterwasafraillittlecreatureandthedreadoflosingherwastheshadowoverAmy’ssunshine。Thiscrosswasdoingmuchforbothfatherandmother,foroneloveandsorrowboundthemcloselytogether。
