  Likesunshineafterastormwerethepeacefulweekswhichfollowed。Theinvalidsimprovedrapidly,andMr。Marchbegantotalkorreturningearlyinthenewyear。Bethwassoonabletolieonthestudysofaallday,amusingherselfwiththewell-belovedcatsatfirst,andintimewithdoll’ssewing,whichhadfallensadlybehindhand。HeronceactivelimbsweresostiffandfeeblethatJotookherforadailyairingaboutthehouseinherstrongarms。Megcheerfullyblackenedandburnedherwhitehandscookingdelicatemessesfor`thedear’,whileAmy,aloyalslaveofthering,celebratedherreturnbygivingawayasmanyofhertreasuresasshecouldprevailonhersisterstoaccept。
