  Hewentintothesaddlesoswiftandsecurethattheanimal,amazed,trembledstock-still,thensprangheadlong。Itstopped,viciousandknowing,andplungedinarage,butcoulddonothingwiththeman,andboltedagain,andawayinastraightblindlineoverthemeadow,whentheriderleanedforwardtohistrick。Thehorseveeredinajaggedswerve,rolledoverandoverwithitstwistedimpetus,anduponitsfeetandonwithoutastop,themanstillseatedanduprightinthesaddle。Howwecheeredtoseeit!Butthefigurenowtiltedstrangely,andsomethingawfulandnamelesscameoverusandchilledournoisetosilence。Thehorse,dazedandtamedbythefall,broughtitsburdentowardsus,awobblingthing,fallingbysmallshakesbackward,untiltheheadsankonthehorse’srump。
