isalsooftenrepresentedonthemonumentsofCentralAmerica——onthestonesofthetemplesofIzamalandtheislandofZapatero，forinstance。Possiblytheworshipoftheproductiveandgenerativeforcesofnaturewastheearliestreligionofmanyprimitivepeoples，butallthatissaidonthesubjectmustbesiftedwithconsiderablecare。
SimilarhatchetsofpurecopperFig。2havebeenfoundinHungary，andButler“PrehistoricWisconsin“speaksofthemalsoasbeingfoundinNorthAmerica。
