  Whistlingfromoffthesea,thewindwaschargedwithmoist,saltspray,anddashingfoamingbillowsashorewiththeirwhitemanesfullofsnakelike,gleamingblackribandsofseaweed,andcausingtherockstorumbleangrilyinresponse,andthetreestorustlewithadry,agitatedsoundastheirtopsswayedtoandfro,andtheirtrunksbentearthwardsasthoughtheywouldfainreeveuptheirroots,andbetakethemwhitherthemountainsstoodveiledinatogaofheavy,darkmist。
  Overtheseathecloudswerehurryingtowardsthelandaseverandanontheyrentthemselvesintostrips,andrevealedfathomlessabyssesofbluewhereintheautumnsunburneduneasily,andsentcloud-shadowsglidingoverthepuckeredwasteofwaters,until,theshorereached,thewindfurtherharriedthemassesofvapourtowardsthesharpflanksofthemountains,and,afterdrawingthemupanddowntheslopes,relegatedthemtoclefts,andleftthemsteamingthere。
