  Theelderlyladythenunfastenedthegates;whereuponastunted,oldishmuzhikinaredshirtlimpedintotheyardwithafoam-fleckedsteed,andexclaimed:
  “Itiscaughtintwoplaces——attheSavelkinclearingandnearthecemetery!“
  Immediatelythecompanypressedaroundhimwithgroansandejaculations,andGubinalonecontinuedtoharnesstheponywithswiftanddexteroushands——sayingtomethroughhisteethashedidso,andwithoutlookingatanyone:
