  Ihopehisgoodresolutionswillnotfallthrough,andpoorMilicentwillnotbeagaindisappointed。Herlastletterwasfullofpresentblissandpleasinganticipationsforthefuture;butnoparticulartemptationhasyetoccurredtoputhisvirtuetothetest。Henceforth,however,shewilldoubtlessbesomewhatlesstimidandreserved,andhemorekindandthoughtful——Surely,then,herhopesarenotunfounded;andIhaveonebrightspot,atleast,whereontorestmythoughts。
  TheTenantofWildfellHall:Chapter43CHAPTERXLIIITHEBOUNDARYPASTOctober10th——Mr。Huntingdonreturnedaboutthreeweeksago。Hisappearance,hisdemeanourandconversation,andmyfeelingswithregardtohim,Ishallnottroublemyselftodescribe。Thedayafterhisarrival,however,hesurprisedmebytheannouncementofanintentiontoprocureagovernessforlittleArthur:Itoldhimitwasquiteunnecessary,nottosayridiculous,atthepresentseason:IthoughtIwasfullycompetenttothetaskofteachinghimmyself——forsomeyearstocome,atleast:thechild’seducationwastheonlypleasureandbusinessofmylife;andsincehehaddeprivedmeofeveryotheroccupation,hemightsurelyleavemethat。
