  eyesclosed,inanattitudewhichmightseemlistlesstoastranger,
  butwhichIknewbetokenedthemostintenseself-absorption。

  writtenupontheirfaces。Hehadfallenintoareverie,withthe
  moss-rosebetweenhisfingers。Ithadlastedsomeminutesbeforethe
  youngladybrokeinuponit。

  askedwithatouchofasperityinhervoice。
