  IWENTbacktothefishing-placewithaheavyheart,overcomebymournfulthoughts,forthefirsttimeinmylife。Itwasplainthatshedidnotdislikeme,andequallyplainthattherewassomeobstacleconnectedwithherfather,whichforbadehertolistentomyofferofmarriage。Fromthetimewhenshehadaccidentallylookedtowardthered-brickhouse,somethinginhermannerwhichitisquiteimpossibletodescribe,hadsuggestedtomymindthatthisobstaclewasnotonlysomethingshecouldnotmention,butsomethingthatshewaspartlyashamedof,partlyafraidof,andpartlydoubtfulabout。Whatcoulditbe?Howhadshefirstknownit?Inwhatwaywasherfatherconnectedwithit?
