  WhileJasminwasstillalive,atranslationwaspublishedbytheAmericanpoetLongfellow,of’TheBlindGirlofCastel-Cuille,’
  perhapsthebestofJasmin’spoems。Inhisnotetothetranslation,Longfellowsaidthat”Jasmin,theauthorofthisbeautifulpoem,istotheSouthofFrancewhatBurnsistotheSouthofScotland,therepresentativeoftheheartofthepeople;
  oneofthosehappybardswhoarebornwiththeirmouthsfullofbirdslaboucoplenod’aouvelous。Hehaswrittenhisownbiographyinapoeticform,andthesimplenarrativeofhispoverty,hisstruggles,andhistriumphs,isverytouching。
