  DEARPAGE,——Thisveryday,toothersthedayofgreatestmirthandjollity,seesmeoverwhelmedwithmoreandgreatermisfortunesthanhavebefallenadescendantofAdamforthesethousandyearspast,Iamsure;andperhaps,afterexceptingJob,sincethecreationoftheworld。Ithinkhismisfortunesweresomewhatgreaterthanmine:foralthoughwemaybeprettynearlyonalevelinotherrespects,yet,IthankmyGod,IhavetheadvantageofbrotherJobinthis,thatSatanhasnotasyetputforthhishandtoloadmewithbodilyafflictions。Youmustknow,dearPage,thatIamnowinahousesurroundedwithenemies,whotakecounseltogetheragainstmysoul;andwhenIlaymedowntorest,theysayamongthemselves,comeletusdestroyhim。IamsureifthereissuchathingasaDevilinthisworld,hemusthavebeenherelastnightandhavehadsomehandincontrivingwhathappenedtome。Doyouthinkthecursedratsathisinstigation,Isupposedidnoteatupmypocket-book,whichwasinmypocket,withinafootofmyhead?Andnotcontentedwithplentyforthepresent,theycarriedawaymyjemmy-workedsilkgarters,andhalfadozennewminuetsIhadjustgot,toserve,Isuppose,asprovisionforthewinter。ButofthisI
