  Theseprayersjust,fromhumbleheartsforthsent,Werenothingslowtoclimbthestarrysky,ButswiftaswingedbirdthemselvespresentBeforetheFatheroftheheavenshigh:
  TheLordacceptedthem,andgentlybentUponthefaithfulhostHisgraciouseye,Andinwhatpainandwhatdistressitlaid,Hesaw,andgrievedtosee,andthusHesaid:

  “Minearmiesdeartillnowhavesufferedwoe,Distressanddanger,hell’sinfernalpowerTheirenemyhathbeen,theworldtheirfoe,Buthappybetheiractionsfromthishour:
  Whattheybegintoblessedendshallgo,Iwillrefreshthemwithagentleshower;

  Atthesehighwordsgreatheavenbegantoshake,Thefixedstars,theplanetswanderingstill,Trembledtheair,theearthandoceanquake,Spring,fountain,river,forest,daleandhill;
  Fromnorthtoeast,alightningflashoutbrake,Andcomingdropspresagedwiththundersshrill:
  Withjoyfulshoutsthesoldiersontheplain,Thesetokensblessoflong-desiredrain。

  Asuddencloud,aswhenHeliasprayed,NotfromdryearthexhaledbyPhoebus’beams,Arose,moistheavenhiswindowsopenlaid,Whencecloudsbyheapsoutrush,andwaterystreams,Theworldo’erspreadwaswithagloomyshade,Thatlikeadarkmirksomeevenitseems;
  Thecrashingrainfrommoltenskiesdownfell,Ando’ertheirbanksthebrooksandfountainsswell。

  Insummerseason,whenthecloudyskyUpontheparchedgrounddothraindownsend,AsduckandmallardinthefurrowsdryWithmerrynoisethepromisedshowersattend,AndspreadingbroadtheirwingsdisplayedlieTokeepthedropsthatontheirplumesdescend,Andwherethestreamsswelltoagatheredlake,Thereintheydive,andsweetrefreshingtake:

  SotheythestreamingshowerswithshoutsandcriesSalute,whichheavenshedonthethirstylands,ThefallingliquorfromthedroppingskiesHecatchethinhislap,hebareheadstands,Andhisbrighthelmtodrinkthereinunties,Inthefreshstreamshediveshissweatyhands,Theirfacessome,andsometheirtempleswet,Andsometokeepthedropslargevesselsset。
