Anon,Itookthebookfromthecloset,andproceededtomakemyselfmasterofitscontents;Ihadsomedifficulty,forthelanguageofthebook,thoughinthemainthesameasthelanguageoftheBible,differedfromitinsomepoints,beingapparentlyamoreancientdialect;bydegrees,however,Iovercamethisdifficulty,andI

ITmightbesomesixmonthsaftertheeventslastrecorded,thattwoindividualswereseatedtogetherinacertainroom,inacertainstreetoftheoldtownwhichIhavesofrequentlyhadoccasiontomentionintheprecedingpages;oneofthemwasanelderly,andtheotheraveryyoungman,andtheysatoneithersideofafireplace,besideatableonwhichwerefruitandwine;

alwayscontrivetodoitasdecorouslyaspossible;thedecencies,whetheroflifeorofdeath,shouldneverbelostsightof。I
rememberafemaleQuakerwhocommittedsuicidebycuttingherthroat,butshediditdecorouslyanddecently:kneelingdownoverapail,sothatnotonedropfelluponthefloor;thusexhibitinginherlastactthatnicesenseofneatnessforwhichQuakersaredistinguished。Ihavealwayshadarespectforthatwoman’smemory。’
