  SirPatrickwentin。Thedining-roomdoorclosed;andBlanchereturnedalonetothelibrary。Nowononepretense,andnowonanother,shehad,forthreedayspast,faithfullyfulfilledtheengagementshehadmadeatCraigFernietowaittenminutesafterluncheon-timeinthelibrary,onthechanceofseeingAnne。Onthis,thefourthoccasion,thefaithfulgirlsatdownaloneinthegreatroom,andwaitedwithhereyesfixedonthelawnoutside。
