  Then,amidmuchlaughingandfun,thecakesweredistributed。AfishforDan,afiddleforNat,abookforDemi,amoneyforTommy,aflowerforDaisy,ahoopforNan,whohaddriventwiceroundthetrianglewithoutstopping,astarforEmil,whoputonairsbecausehestudiedastronomy,and,bestofall,anomnibusforFranz,whosegreatdelightwastodrivethefamilybus。Stuffygotafatpig,andthelittlefolkshadbirds,andcats,andrabbits,withblackcurranteyes。

  HereMrs。Jo’sremarkswerecutshortbytheappearanceofNantearingroundthecorneratabreak-neckpace,drivingamettlesometeamoffourboys,andfollowedbyDaisytrundlingBessinawheelbarrow。Hatoff,hairflying,whipcracking,andbarrowbumping,uptheycameinacloudofdust,lookingaswildasetoflittlehoydensasonewouldwishtosee。
  “So,thesearethemodelchildren,arethey?It’sluckyIdidn’tbringMrs。Curtisouttoseeyourschoolforthecultivationofmoralsandmanners;
