  FollowedbytheAsikaandJeekie,Alanwalkedupandlookedherinthefaceandtohisexcitedimaginationsheappearedtogrinathiminanswer。Thenwhilethepriestsprostratedthemselves,heexaminedthegoldenbasinorlaver,andsawthatatthefurthersideofitwasalittleplatformapproachedbysteps。Onthetopofthesegoldenstepsweretwodepressionssuchasmighthavebeenwornoutinthecourseofagesbypersonskneelingthere。Alsotheflatedgeofthebasinwhichstoodaboutthirtyinchesabovethelevelofthetopmoststep,wasscoredasthoughbyhundredsofswordcutswhichhadmadedeeplinesinthepuremetal。Thebasinitselfwasempty。
