  ThenhecheckedhimselfandsuggestedthatAlanshouldhaveabathwhilehecleanedhisclothes,anattentionthattheyneeded。
  ScarcelyhadAlanfinishedhistoilet,donnedtheArab-lookinglinenrobeoverhisownfragmentaryflannels,andaboveitthehatefulmaskwhichJeekieinsistedhemustwear,whentherecameaknockingonthedoor。MotioningtoAlantotakehisseatuponastool,Jeekieundidthebars,andasbeforewomenappearedwithfoodandwaitedwhiletheyate,whichthistime,havingovercomehisnervousness,Alandidmoreleisurely。Theirmealdone,oneofthewomenaskedJeekie,fortohismastertheydidnotseemtodaretospeak,whetherthewhitelorddidnotwishtowalkinthegarden。Withoutwaitingforananswersheledhimtotheendofthelargeroomand,unbarringanotherdoorthattheyhadnotnoticed,revealedapassage,beyondwhichappearedtreesandflowers。Thensheandhercompanionswentawaywiththefragmentsofthemeal。
  “Comeon,“saidAlan,takinguptheboxcontainingLittleBonsa,whichhedidnotdaretoleavebehind,“andletusgetintotheair。“

  Forawhiletheywalkedupanddowntheroughpaths,tillatlastJeekie,wearyingofthisoccupation,remarked:

  “Allright,“saidAlan,whothroughtheeyeholesofhismaskhadbeenstudyingthewallstoseekaspotinthemthatcouldbeclimbedifnecessary,andfoundnone。
