  Soallthefolkofthatlandmettogetheratmybidding——yes,eventhewomenandthechildren。FirstwelaidthedeadinthelargestofAthalbrand’sships,hispeopleandAthalbrandhimselfbeingsetundermost。ThenonthemwesetthedeadofThorvald,Thorvald,myfather,andhissonRagnar,mybrother,boundtothemastupontheirfeet。Thisdone,withgreatlabourwedraggedtheshipontohighground,andaboveitbuiltamightymoundofearth。Fortwentydayswetoiledatthetask,tillatlastitwasfinishedandthedeadwerehiddenbeneathitforever。Thenweseparatedtoourhomesandmournedawhile。
  ButSteinarwascarriedtothetempleofOdinatAar,andtherekeptintheprisonofthetemple。
  ItwastheeveoftheSpringFeastofOdin。ItcomesbacktomethatatthisfeastitwasthecustomtosacrificesomebeasttoOdinandtolayflowersandotherofferingsuponthealtarsofcertainothergodsthattheymightbepleasedtograntafruitfulseason。Onthisday,however,thesacrificewastobeofnobeast,butofaman——Steinarthetraitor。
