  Mr。Hodsonlaughedagain。”Theyoungmenishomefromcollege。They’vewhoppedJohnScrogginstillhe’swellnighdead。”

  andIhavebeentakenbymynewpupilsthroughallthesefineapartmentsthismorning。Theyarenotrenderedlessgloomy,Ipromiseyou,byhavingtheshuttersalwaysshut;andthereisscarceoneoftheapartments,butwhenthelightwasletintoit,Iexpectedtoseeaghostintheroom。Wehaveaschoolroomonthesecondfloor,withmybedroomleadingintoitononeside,andthatoftheyoungladiesontheother。ThenthereareMr。Pitt’sapartments——Mr。Crawley,heiscalled——theeldestson,andMr。RawdonCrawley’srooms——heisanofficerlikeSOMEBODY,andawaywithhisregiment。ThereisnowantofroomIassureyou。YoumightlodgeallthepeopleinRussellSquareinthehouse,Ithink,andhavespacetospare。
  Halfanhourafterourarrival,thegreatdinner-bellwasrung,andIcamedownwithmytwopupilstheyareverythininsignificantlittlechitsoftenandeightyearsold。IcamedowninyourdearmuslingownaboutwhichthatodiousMrs。Pinnerwassorude,becauseyougaveitme;forIamtobetreatedasoneofthefamily,exceptoncompanydays,whentheyoungladiesandIaretodineupstairs。
