　　Itisimpossibletosaywhetherthisvalley，whichcontainssomuchmoisture，wouldraisewheatasthevalleyoftheNiledoesItisprobablytoorich，andwouldmakecornrunentirelytostraw，foronespeciesofgrasswasobservedtwelvefeethigh，withastemasthickasaman’sthumb。
　　Atpresentthepasturageisnevereatenoff，thoughtheMakololopossessimmenseherdsofcattle。
　　Therearenolargetowns，themoundsonwhichthetownsandvillagesarebuiltbeingallsmall，andthepeoplerequiretoliveapartonaccountoftheircattle。
　　ThisvisitwasthefirstSekeletuhadmadetothesepartssinceheattainedthechieftainshipThosewhohadtakenpartwithMpepewereconsequentlyingreatterrorWhenwecametothetownofMpepe’sfather，asheandanothermanhadcounseledMamochisanetoputSekeletutodeathandmarryMpepe，thetwowereledforthandtossedintotheriver。

　　WhentheriveriscompressedamongthehighrockybanksnearGonye，itrisessixtyfeet。

　　ThesameunluckyaccidenthappenedtooneofthecatsIhadbroughttoSekeletuAstranger，seeingananimalhehadneverviewedbefore，killedit，andbroughtthetrophytothechief，thinkingthathehadmadeaveryremarkablediscovery；wetherebylostthebreedofcats，ofwhich，fromtheswarmsofmice，westoodingreatneed。
