  Howeverthesemattersmaybewhichhavenoreferencetothepointnowatissue,itisquitecertainthatthepeopleofRattleborough,principallythroughthepersuasionofMr。Pennifeather,cameatlengthtothedeterminationofdispersionovertheadjacentcountryinsearchofthemissingMr。Shuttleworthy。Isaytheycametothisdeterminationinthefirstinstance。Afterithadbeenfullyresolvedthatasearchshouldbemade,itwasconsideredalmostamatterofcoursethattheseekersshoulddispersethatistosay,distributethemselvesinpartiesforthemorethoroughexaminationoftheregionroundabout。Iforget,however,bywhatingenioustrainofreasoningitwasthat“OldCharley“finallyconvincedtheassemblythatthiswasthemostinjudiciousplanthatcouldbepursued。Convincethem,however,hedidallexceptMr。Pennifeather,and,intheend,itwasarrangedthatasearchshouldbeinstituted,carefullyandverythoroughly,bytheburghersenmasse,“OldCharley“
