Nowthetwowomencamefromtheirchamberatthefarendofthehall,anddrewnearthehearth,shivering,fortheairwascold。Theykneltbythefire,blowingattheemberstillthestickstheycastuponthemcrackledtoablaze。
“ItseemsthatGudrudaisnotyetgone。”saidonetotheother。“I

AlldayEricsatthus,lookingonhisdeadlove’sface,tillthehourcameroundwhenheandGudrudahaddrunkthebride-cup。ThenheroseandkisseddeadGudrudaonthelips,saying:

Thentheyrodeaway,headingforColdback。Thenightwaswildandwindy,andtheskydarkwithscuddingclouds,throughwhichthemoonpeepedoutattimes。Ericlookedup,thenspoketoSkallagrim:
