notcompass。Withfeelingsakintothisadmirationandawe——theoffspringofsublimity——werethedifferentchar-
acterswithwhichtheactionofthistalemustopen,gazingonthescenebeforethem。Fourpersonsinall,——twoofeachsex,——theyhadmanagedtoascendapileoftrees,thathadbeenuptornbyatempest,tocatchaviewoftheobjectsthatsurroundedthem。Itisstillthepracticeofthecoun-
trytocallthesespotswind-rows。Bylettinginthelightofheavenuponthedarkanddamprecessesofthewood,theyformasortofoasesinthesolemnobscurityofthevirginforestsofAmerica。Theparticularwind-rowofwhichwearewritinglayonthebrowofagentleaccliv-
