  Attheverybeginningof1778,thechronicquarrelwithAustriapassed,byanaccidentjustfallenout,intotheacutestate;
  rosegradually,and,inspiteofnegotiating,issuedinathingcalledBavarian—SuccessionWar,whichdidnotendtillSpringofthefollowingyear。Theaccidentwasthis。AtMunchen,December30th,1777,MaxJosephKurfurstofBaiern,onlyBrotherofourlivelyfriendtheElectress—DowagerofSaxony,died;suddenly,ofsmall—poxunskilfullytreated。Hewasinhisfifty—secondyear;
