  Agreeably,itwouldseem,tothenotionofIamblichusandPlotinus,thattheuniverseisasananimal;sothatthereissympathyandcommunicationbetweenonepartandtheother;inthesmallestpartmaybethesubtlestnerve。AndhencetheuniversalmagnetismofNature。Butmancontemplatestheuniverseasananimalculewouldanelephant。Theanimalcule,seeingscarcelythetipofthehoof,wouldbeincapableofcomprehendingthatthetrunkbelongedtothesamecreature,——thattheeffectproducedupononeextremitywouldbefeltinaninstantbytheother。
  Centuriespassed,andliveswerewastedinthesediscoveries;butstepafterstepwaschronicledandmarked,andbecametheguidetothefewwhoalonehadthehereditaryprivilegetotracktheirpath。
