Thethingwastooevidentlyablind。Whentheringwasfound,however,itsettledthequestion。Clearlythemurdererhadusedittoremindhisvictimofsomedeadorabsentwoman。ItwasatthispointthatIaskedGregsonwhetherhehadenquiredinhistelegramtoClevelandastoanyparticularpointinMr。Drebber'sformercareer。
