  seemedtoperceivethesecretcharmofmediaevalsculpture;thatcombinationofthechildishcourageoftheamateur,attemptingallthings,liketheschoolboyonhisslate,withthemanlyperseveranceoftheartistwhodoesnotknowwhenheisconquered。
