  Morethanthis;heseesusinawayinwhichmanyofourfriendsoracquaintancesneverseeus。Withoutwearinganymaskweareconsciousof,wehaveaspecialfaceforeachfriend。For,inthefirstplace,eachputsaspecialreflectionofhimselfuponus,ontheprincipleofassimilationyoufoundreferredtoinmylastrecord,ifyouhappenedtoreadthatdocument。Andsecondly,eachofourfriendsiscapableofseeingjustsofar,andnofarther,intoourface,andeachseesinittheparticularthingthathelooksfor。Nowtheartist,ifheistrulyanartist,doesnottakeanyoneofthesespecialviews。Supposeheshouldcopyyouasyouappeartothemanwhowantsyournametoasubscription-list,youcouldhardlyexpectafriendwhoentertainsyoutorecognizethelikenesstothesmilingfacewhichshedsitsradianceathisboard。
