Friedrichisnotthoughttoshineinthesieginglineashedoesinthefighting;whichhassometruthinit,thoughnotverymuch。
WhenFriedrichlaidhimselftoengineering,Iobserve,hediditwell:seeNeisse,Graudenz,Magdeburg。HisBalbiwentwrongwiththeparallels,onthisoccasion;manythingswentwrong:butthetrulygrievousthingwashisdistancefromSilesiaandthesupplies。Ahundredandtwentymilesofhill—carriage,eightyofthemdisputable,foreveryshotofammunitionandforeveryloafofbread;thiswashardtostand:——andperhapsnoWar—apparatusbutaPrussian,withaFriedrichforsolechief—manager,couldhavestooditsolong。Friedrichdidstandit,inawonderfullytolerablemanner;andwascontinuingtostandit,andmakefairprogress;

LEONINE);suchstealthyglidingsabout,deceptivemotions,appearances;thensucharapidityofspringuponyou,andwithsuchasetofclaws,——destructivetobovineorrhinocerosnature:
inregardtoallwhich,Bos,ifhewillprosper,surelycannotbetoocautious。ItwasremarkedofDaun,thathewasscrupulouslycareful;never,inthemostimpregnablesituations,neglectingtheleastprecaution,butpunctiliouslyfortifyinghimselftothelastitem,eventoaridiculousextent,sayRetzowandthecritics。
