  AsplendidfestivalwasbeingcelebratedatInnspruckonthe3dofOctober,andthereweregreatrejoicingsinthecity。AmessageofloveandjoyhadreachedInnspruckfromtheheadquartersoftheEmperorFrancisatTotis。ThreeoftheformerleadersoftheTyroleseinsurrection,whohadescapedtoAustriaatthetimeofthesecondinvasionoftheBavarians——Sieberer,Frischmann,andEisenstecken——hadarrivedatInnspruckascouriersoftheemperor。
  TheyhadsucceededinpassingthroughStyriaandCarinthia,althoughboththeseprovinceswereoccupiedbyFrenchtroops,andhadsafelyarrivedatInnspruckamidthejubilantacclamationsofthepopulation。TheybroughtcheeringnewsfromtheEmperorFrancis。Hesenttothecommander—in—chiefoftheTyrol,hisbelovedandfaithfulAndreasHofer,alargegoldchainandmedalcontainingtheemperor'sportrait;andhesentalsothreethousandflorinsasagifttothebravesharpshooters。Butbetterthanallthiswasanautographletterfromtheemperor,whoextolledinitthebraveryoftheTyrolese,calleduponthemtopersevereintheirresistance,andpromisedthatAustriawouldsuccorthemvigorouslywithmoneyandtroops。TheletterstatedthattheemperorwouldsoondispatchBaronvonReschmannwithfundsandfullinstructionstotheTyrol,wherehewouldactascommissionerandintendantofthearmy,andthattheTyrolesemightconfidentlylookforthespeedyresumptionofhostilities。
