Ihavenotinquiredamongmymedicalacquaintance,whetherTurtle,andcoldPunch,withHock,Champagne,andClaret,andalltheslightetceterausuallyincludedinanunlimitedorderforagooddinner-especiallywhenitislefttotheliberalconstructionofmyfaultlessfriend,Mr。Radley,oftheAdelphiHotel-arepeculiarlycalculatedtosufferasea-change;orwhetheraplainmutton-chop,andaglassortwoofsherry,wouldbelesslikelyofconversionintoforeignanddisconcertingmaterial。Myownopinionis,thatwhetheroneisdiscreetorindiscreetintheseparticulars,ontheeveofasea-voyage,isamatteroflittleconsequence;andthat,touseacommonphrase,'itcomestoverymuchthesamethingintheend。'Bethisasitmay,Iknowthatthedinnerofthatdaywasundeniablyperfect;thatitcomprehendedalltheseitems,andagreatmanymore;andthatwealldidamplejusticetoit。AndIknowtoo,that,batingacertaintacitavoidanceofanyallusiontoto-morrow;suchasmaybesupposedtoprevailbetweendelicate-mindedturnkeys,andasensitiveprisonerwhoistobehangednextmorning;wegotonverywell,and,allthingsconsidered,weremerryenough。
