Sheldon,whohadgonetotheheadofthesteps,introducedthemtoJoan。Thebewhiskeredindividual,wholookedlikeaScotsman,hadtheTeutonicnameofVonBlix,andspokewithastrongAmericanaccent。Thetallmaninthewell-fittingducks,whogavetheEnglishnameofTudor——JohnTudor——talkedpurely-enunciatedEnglishsuchasanyculturedAmericanwouldtalk,saveforthefactthatitwasmostdelicatelyandsubtlytouchedbyafaintGermanaccent。
JoandecidedthatshehadbeenhelpedtoidentifytheaccentbytheshortGerman-lookingmoustachethatdidnotconcealthemouthanditsfullredlips,whichwouldhaveformedaCupid'sbowbutforsomeharshnessorseverityofspiritthathadmouldedthemmasculinely。
