  Isentacurrentthroughthethirdfencenow;andalmostimmediatelythroughthefourthandfifth,soquicklywerethegapsfilledup.Ibelievedthetimewascomenowformyclimax;Ibelievedthatthatwholearmywasinourtrap.Anyway,itwashightimetofindout.SoItouchedabuttonandsetfiftyelectricsunsaflameonthetopofourprecipice.
  Land,whatasight!Wewereenclosedinthreewallsofdeadmen!Alltheotherfenceswereprettynearlyfilledwiththeliving,whowerestealthilyworkingtheirwayforwardthroughthewires.Thesuddenglareparalyzedthishost,petrifiedthem,youmaysay,withastonishment;therewasjustoneinstantformetoutilizetheirimmobilityin,andIdidn'tlosethechance.Yousee,inanotherinstanttheywouldhaverecoveredtheirfaculties,thenthey'dhaveburstintoacheerandmadearush,andmywireswouldhavegonedownbeforeit;butthatlostinstantlostthemtheiropportunityforever;whileeventhatslightfragmentoftimewasstillunspent,Ishotthecurrentthroughallthefencesandstruckthewholehostdeadintheirtracks!THEREwasagroanyoucouldHEAR!Itvoicedthedeath-pangofeleventhousandmen.Itswelledoutonthenightwithawfulpathos.
